Raised in Newton, Massachusetts, Barry is a lifelong advocate for victims and survivors of domestic violence and is the driving force behind creating the American Family Center effort.

As such, he decided to “pay-it-forward” by combining his 25+ year career as an antiques, estate sale, and auctions professional with his advocacy by acquiring home goods on behalf of those transitioning from secure shelter to independent living. 

Over the years his vision and advocacy has evolved to instruct the guidance and development of new and innovative prevention and support programs for the future.

In Memoriam: James M. Sherman,

Co-founder

With heavy hearts, we remember and honor James M. Sherman, our beloved co-founder, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. James was not only instrumental in shaping the vision and foundation of the American Family Center but also deeply committed to the cause of supporting domestic violence victims and survivors.

A proud native of Newton, MA, and a military veteran, James channeled his passion for helping others into his work, tirelessly advocating for those in need.

 His leadership was pivotal in establishing the Center's facilities and managing the distribution of essential grants, home goods, and services to the individuals and families we serve.

James was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Boston and was recognized for his community outreach efforts long before co-founding the Center. His energy, dedication, and guidance will be missed, but his legacy lives on in the countless lives 

he touched.

leaves behind.

Director & President

Raised in Newton, Massachusetts, David has had a lifelong career running his own award-winning marketing, public relations and communications agency. 

He is also a long time volunteer and consultant to the American Family Center, providing communications, public relations, program development and direction. Looking forward, David has accepted a more active role by bringing his executive experience to bear on overall operations. 

  David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY (1979).
