Prevention Through Interactive Storytelling
Choices Interactive™ is American Family Center’s prevention-focused interactive media initiative designed to help young adults recognize unhealthy relationship patterns before harm escalates.
Rather than relying on lectures or static awareness campaigns, Choices Interactive uses short-form branching video experiences that place viewers inside realistic, emotionally familiar moments—moments where small decisions can lead toward trust, respect, and safety… or toward control, isolation, and abuse.
These are not extreme “headline” scenarios. They are the everyday moments where emotional manipulation often begins.
A text left unanswered.
A suspicious message.
An invitation withheld.
A jealous friend disguised as concern.
Through relatable characters and real-world tension, viewers are asked to choose what happens next.
How It Works
Each episode begins with a short scenario presented through social media, embedded video, or direct community outreach.
At a key decision point, viewers choose how the story continues:
🔘 Speak honestly
🔘 Hide the truth
🔘 Give space
🔘 Demand answers
🔘 Set boundaries
🔘 Escalate control
Each choice leads to a different branch, allowing participants to experience the emotional consequences of communication, pressure, jealousy, coercion, and accountability.
This approach transforms passive viewing into active reflection.
Instead of being told what healthy behavior looks like, participants experience the difference.
Why It Matters
Domestic violence and coercive control rarely begin with obvious abuse.
They often start with emotional pressure, isolation, manipulation, jealousy, financial control, and normalized unhealthy behaviors—especially among younger audiences still learning relationship boundaries.
Choices Interactive helps interrupt that cycle early.
By engaging viewers before patterns become dangerous, the program supports:
- Domestic violence prevention
- Healthy relationship education
- Emotional intelligence development
- Conflict resolution awareness
- Early intervention for high-risk behavior patterns
Prevention is more effective—and far less costly—than crisis response.
Designed for Social Media Reach
Choices Interactive is built specifically for how younger audiences consume content today.
Episodes are designed for:
- Instagram Reels
- Facebook and Instagram Stories
- YouTube Shorts
- TikTok-style short-form delivery
- School and youth program discussion groups
- Community awareness campaigns
- Embedded web experiences for deeper engagement
Social media becomes the entry point.
Interactive landing pages become the reflection point.
This creates scalable awareness with measurable outcomes.
Data, Measurement & Fundable Impact
Awareness alone is not enough.
Choices Interactive tracks engagement patterns, audience behavior, and completion pathways to better understand how participants respond to different relationship scenarios.
This allows us to measure:
- audience reach
- participation rates
- branch decision trends
- repeat engagement
- demographic response patterns
- educational and behavioral indicators over time
This data helps improve program effectiveness while giving funders meaningful visibility into measurable prevention outcomes.
Why Support Matters
Creating effective prevention media requires far more than producing videos.
It requires:
- script development rooted in real behavioral patterns
- professional video production
- branching interactive technology
- strategic audience targeting and social media distribution
- paid media amplification to reach high-risk and underserved audiences
- school, youth, and community partner deployment
- testing, optimization, and analytics reporting
- long-term program refinement based on behavioral outcomes
Effective prevention depends on reaching the right people—not just publishing content.
Strategic media distribution ensures these stories reach young adults where decisions are actually happening: on their phones, in their feeds, and inside their everyday conversations.
Your support helps us move prevention upstream—before crisis intervention is needed.
By funding Choices Interactive, you help young people build healthier relationships, recognize red flags earlier, and make safer decisions before harm escalates.
