AFC Donation & Disposition Policy

Purpose

The American Family Center (AFC) gratefully accepts donations of clothing, accessories, personal-care items, household goods, and related materials to support its charitable programs — including Wednesday Women’s Closet, Choices Interactive, and other family-well-being initiatives.

This policy ensures that all donated goods are managed, distributed, and reported in a manner consistent with donor intent, nonprofit best practices, and AFC’s mission to strengthen families, restore dignity, and promote independence.

Policy Statement

AFC uses a dual-channel model for the disposition of donated goods:

1. Direct Assistance

  • Eligible individuals and families may receive donated items at no cost through AFC’s Wednesday Women’s Closet Voucher Program and other outreach events.
  • Vouchers are issued through approved partner agencies or community organizations.
  • No identification or payment is required at redemption.

2. Mission Resale

  • Selected items may be sold through AFC’s online shops (eBay, and/or other affiliated resale platforms).
  • All proceeds are used exclusively to fund AFC’s charitable activities — including clothing vouchers, hygiene kits, delivery logistics, community awareness, and program development.

Donor Intent & Transparency

  • AFC respects the intent of every donor and applies all donated goods or proceeds thereof toward its charitable mission.
  • Donated items are never sold for personal profit or diverted to any non-charitable purpose.
  • Donors are informed that contributions may be distributed directly or sold to fund AFC programs — both methods advance the same charitable objectives.

Accounting & Reporting

  • All donated goods and resale proceeds are recorded and reported in accordance with IRS regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for nonprofit organizations.
  • Records of donated items, vouchers, and sales are maintained for audit and compliance purposes.

Public Communication

A summary of this policy appears on AFC’s website, donation receipts, and online listings using language such as:

“Donated items may be provided directly to individuals in need or sold to fund AFC’s programs. Every donation helps restore dignity and independence for those rebuilding their lives.”

Section 7 — Voucher Fulfillment & Shipping Policy

AFC fulfills vouchers primarily through local community pickup sites and online coordination.
The following guidelines apply to voucher redemption, shipping, and donor-supported fulfillment.

1. Local Recipients — Free Pickup
Vouchers redeemed locally may be fulfilled through community partners such as restaurants, lodges, or churches at no cost to the recipient.
AFC staff or volunteers coordinate delivery and distribution.

2. Non-Local Recipients — Shipping Option
Recipients outside the local service area may redeem vouchers online.
In such cases, recipients may be responsible for shipping costs.
Voucher value applies to items only.

3. Donor-Supported Shipping
AFC may receive contributions from community donors or sponsors that can be used to cover shipping costs for recipients who cannot afford freight.
These contributions are voluntary and based on availability.
